Join us for an in-person Red Lion Crimson® 3.2 training designed for controls engineers and I/E professionals who want to build, troubleshoot, and optimize HMI and industrial networking applications with confidence.

Led by Joe Waszgis, HMI, Industrial Networking, and I/O Specialist, this hands-on workshop provides practical, real-world instruction using Crimson 3.2. Whether you are new to Red Lion or looking to expand your current capabilities, this class focuses on best practices you can immediately apply in the field.

Participants will work directly with Crimson 3.2 to configure communications, build graphical interfaces, manage tags efficiently, and diagnose network and communication issues across multiple platforms. 

Through instructor-led discussion and hands-on exercises, attendees will gain experience with:

  • Overview of the Crimson 3.2 software environment and project structure
  • Communication driver selection, configuration, and setup
  • Building graphical interfaces, symbols, and data entry objects
  • Efficient tag creation and management, including mass tag import/export
  • Automatic Allen-Bradley integration using L5K files
  • Introduction to scripting and logic within Crimson
  • Communication diagnostics and troubleshooting techniques
  • Network troubleshooting tools, including ping and network traffic capture
  • Overview of C++ capabilities within Crimson
  • Introduction to MQTT protocol functionality and use cases

Hands-on activity: Performing mass tag creation and validation using import/export tools.

Module 5: Scripting, Logic, and Diagnostics

  • Introduction to Crimson scripting and logic concepts
  • Communication diagnostics and performance monitoring
  • Network troubleshooting tools, including ping and traffic capture

Hands-on activity: Diagnosing and resolving common communication and networking issues.

Module 6: Advanced Capabilities and Emerging Use Cases

  • Overview of C++ functionality within Crimson
  • Introduction to MQTT protocol functionality and industrial use cases
  • Best practices for scalable, connected architectures

Hands-on activity: Exploring advanced features and configuring basic MQTT connectivity.

Joe Waszgis

 

Joe Waszgis

HMI, Industrial Networking & I/O Specialist

Joe Waszgis (aka Joe WaZoo) has been teaching HMI programming classes since 2007 starting with Crimson 2.0, migrating to Crimson 3.0 in 2010, then 3.1 in 2016, and now using Crimson 3.2 for all classes.  The classes are always Hands-On and no PowerPoints. Students build a real application in every class. Joe started his career working for TURCK for 10 years and then moved into his current role as Product Specialist for Automated Dynamics Corp since 2006.

He has his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from the University of Nebraska (Omaha campus) and a Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He currently resides in Dallas, TX with his wife Becky and two spoiled dogs Yoda & Gertie.
